Compound growth calculator

Explore how starting savings, regular contributions and time could grow your money.

Your numbers

Start with the example, then make it yours. Amounts are in US dollars.

Deposited at the end of each month.
Annual effective growth, before taxes and fees. An illustration, not a forecast.
Used only to show the ending balance in today’s purchasing power.

How this estimate works

Uses a constant annual effective growth rate, converted to an equivalent monthly rate: (1 + annual growth)^(1/12) − 1. Contributions are added at the end of each month. Today’s purchasing power divides the ending balance by (1 + inflation)^years. Contributions stay fixed in dollar terms.

Actual investments fluctuate and may lose value. Returns here are smooth illustrations. Taxes and fees are not modeled; choose an assumption that reflects costs where appropriate.

A little more clarity

Why show contributions separately from growth?

Your contributions are money you put in. Modeled growth is the ending balance minus those contributions, and can be negative with a negative growth assumption.

Does inflation reduce the balance?

Inflation does not change the displayed future-dollar balance. It changes the separate estimate of what that balance could buy in today’s dollars.
