Savings goal calculator

Find a monthly savings target for a down payment, emergency fund, trip or another goal.

Your numbers

Start with the example, then make it yours. Amounts are in US dollars.

The amount you want to have on the goal date. Include any expected price increases.
Deposited at the end of each month.
Annual effective growth, before taxes and fees. An illustration, not a forecast.

How this estimate works

Solves for equal month-end contributions needed to reach your future-dollar goal. Existing savings and each contribution grow at the equivalent monthly rate for your annual effective assumption. The current-path comparison uses the monthly savings amount you enter. A goal already funded by projected existing savings requires no additional monthly savings.

Does not account for taxes, fees or changes in contribution amounts. A short-term savings goal can require different assumptions from a long-term investment goal. This tool does not recommend an investment.

A little more clarity

Does the goal automatically rise with inflation?

No. Enter the amount you expect to need on the goal date. You can use the inflation calculator to estimate that amount first.

What if I already have enough?

The required monthly savings becomes zero when your current savings, with the growth you assume, reach the target by the goal date.
